This course fulfils the course training component of the the EFSUMB Level 1 curriculum.



The 7th DENTA Head & Neck Ultrasound Course x Aalborg University Hospital
A two-day intermediate-level course endorsed by the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) including lectures, demonstrations and supervised hands-on training on models and patients.
At the end of the course, participants will:
- Know the principles of ultrasound and how to apply ultrasound in clinical use
- Know about functionalities of the ultrasound machines and how to optimise ultrasound pictures
- Be able to utilise ultrasound to assess pathology of the Head and Neck
- Be able to perform fine needle aspiration
- Know about ultrasound guided radiofrequency therapies

Instructors

Dr Ravi Lingan
Senior Consultant Radiologist, MD
Senior Consultant Radiologist and Educational Supervisor at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London. President of the British Society of Head & Neck Imaging. He obtained the European Diploma in Head and Neck Imaging in 2013 and is a training centre tutor for the European School of Radiology.

Scott Rice
Scott is Medical Director for Women’s, Children’s, Clinical Support, Specialist Services & Integrated Cancer Care at London North West University Healthcare. Dual qualified in dentistry and medicine, he trained in radiology at UCLH and The Royal Free. His subspecialty focuses on head and neck cancer and complex interventions. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and an MA supervisor for the Royal College of Physicians (UK).

Kristine Zøylner Swan
Senior Consultant, MD, PhD
Kristine is a specialist in ENT surgery within the subspeciality of thyroid and parathyroid surgery and diagnostics. Her research experience includes a PhD degree in thyroid risk-stratification and diagnostics from Aarhus university. Especially, thyroid ultrasound, cytology and molecular markers are within her area of interest clinically as well as scientifically.

Ditte Hermansen
MD, senior consultant, ENT-dept. RHG
Chief Physician and Responsible for Education at the ENT-department Regional Hospital Gødstrup. 15-years of experience in clinical bed-side ultrasound and co-organiser of the regional cource in Clinical ENT Ultrasound for Doctors in Introductory position. Experienced surgeon in benign salivary gland and thyroid surgery.

Gitta Madani

Sanne Høxbroe Michaelsen
Sanne Høxbroe Michaelsen is a senior ENT resident with 6 years of experience in parathyroid ultrasound. She is currently in the process of finishing her Ph.d. project: „Surgeon-performed imaging of the parathyroid glands in a pre- and perioperative setting”, which has resulted in the implementation of upfront ultrasound as the first-line imaging modality for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism in the Region of Southern Denmark.

Camilla Vaskjær Aakjær Andersen
Camila is an associate professor and senior researcher at Aalborg University in Denmark. She is the head of the ultrasound research group at Center for General Practice and a member of the executive bureau in the Danish Ultrasound Society and the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.

Jesper Scott Karmisholt
PhD in thyroid disease (specifically Subclinical Hypothyroidism) in 2008 and more than 30 publications on the topic thyroid disease. Endocrinologist since 2013, and now Senior Physician with primary responsibility: thyroid hormone disease and radioactive iodine treatment in benign thyroid disease. Regular user of thyroid ultrasound during more than 10 years.

Jacob Miehe
Jacob is a certified specialist in ENT diseases with a medical degree from Aarhus University. He completed his specialist training at Aalborg University Hospitals and Godstrup Hospital. His expertise encompasses tumor surgery of the head and neck, including the thyroid and salivary glands. In addition, he teaches medical students at Aalborg University, focusing on ENT and Ultrasound.
